2026-02-21Convert 'alloc_obj' family to use the new default GFP_KERNEL argumentLinus Torvalds
This was done entirely with mindless brute force, using git grep -l '\<k[vmz]*alloc_objs*(.*, GFP_KERNEL)' | xargs sed -i 's/\(alloc_objs*(.*\), GFP_KERNEL)/\1)/' to convert the new alloc_obj() users that had a simple GFP_KERNEL argument to just drop that argument. Note that due to the extreme simplicity of the scripting, any slightly more complex cases spread over multiple lines would not be triggered: they definitely exist, but this covers the vast bulk of the cases, and the resulting diff is also then easier to check automatically. 2026-02-21treewide: Replace kmalloc with kmalloc_obj for non-scalar typesKees Cook
This is the result of running the Coccinelle script from scripts/coccinelle/api/kmalloc_objs.cocci. The script is designed to avoid scalar types (which need careful case-by-case checking), and instead replace kmalloc-family calls that allocate struct or union object instances: Single allocations: kmalloc(sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_obj(TYPE, ...) Array allocations: kmalloc_array(COUNT, sizeof(TYPE), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_objs(TYPE, COUNT, ...) Flex array allocations: kmalloc(struct_size(PTR, FAM, COUNT), ...) are replaced with: kmalloc_flex(*PTR, FAM, COUNT, ...) 2025-10-28drm/amd/display: Add DAC_LoadDetection to BIOS parser (v2)Timur Kristóf
DAC_LoadDetection can be used to determine whether something is connected to an analog connector by determining if there is an analog load. This causes visible flickering on displays, so we only resort to using this when the connected display doesn't have an EDID. For reference, see the legacy display code: amdgpu_atombios_encoder_dac_load_detect v2: Only clear corresponding bit from BIOS_SCRATCH_0. When getting the number of connectors, the VBIOS reports the number of valid indices, but it doesn't say which indices are valid, and not every valid index has an actual connector. If we don't find a connector on an index, that is not an error. Considering these are not actual errors, don't litter the logs. 2023-09-26drm/amd/display: switch DC over to the new DRM logging macrosHamza Mahfooz
For multi-GPU systems it is difficult to tell which GPU a particular message is being printed for and that is undesirable because it complicates debugging efforts. Also, the new macros allow us to enable logging for particular parts of the codebase more selectively (since we no longer need to throw everything at DRM_DEBUG_KMS()). So, for the reasons outlined above we should switch to the new macros. We can accomplish this by using the existing DC_LOGGER code to pass around the relevant `struct drm_device` which will be fed to the new macros in logger_types.h. Also, we must get rid of all instances of the DC_LOG_.*() functions that are currently in amdgpu_dm since we don't use the DC logger there and we can simply refer to the macros directly there instead. One-element arrays are deprecated, and we are replacing them with flexible array members instead. So, replace one-element array with flexible-array member in structs ATOM_I2C_VOLTAGE_OBJECT_V3, ATOM_ASIC_INTERNAL_SS_INFO_V2, ATOM_ASIC_INTERNAL_SS_INFO_V3, and refactor the rest of the code accordingly. Important to mention is that doing a build before/after this patch results in no functional binary output differences. This helps with the ongoing efforts to tighten the FORTIFY_SOURCE routines on memcpy() and help us make progress towards globally enabling -fstrict-flex-arrays=3 [1]. 2019-08-15drm/amd/display: make firmware info only load once during dc_bios createDmytro Laktyushkin
Currently every time DC wants to access firmware info we make a call into VBIOS. This makes no sense as there is nothing that can change runtime inside fw info and can cause issues when calling unstable bios during bringup. This change eliminate this behavior by only calling bios once for fw info and keeping it stored as part of dc_bios.
