2025-11-07perf/x86/intel: Setup PEBS data configuration and enable legacy groupsDapeng Mi
Different with legacy PEBS, arch-PEBS provides per-counter PEBS data configuration by programing MSR IA32_PMC_GPx/FXx_CFG_C MSRs. This patch obtains PEBS data configuration from event attribute and then writes the PEBS data configuration to MSR IA32_PMC_GPx/FXx_CFG_C and enable corresponding PEBS groups. Please notice this patch only enables XMM SIMD regs sampling for arch-PEBS, the other SIMD regs (OPMASK/YMM/ZMM) sampling on arch-PEBS would be supported after PMI based SIMD regs (OPMASK/YMM/ZMM) sampling is supported. 2025-11-07perf/x86/intel: Allocate arch-PEBS buffer and initialize PEBS_BASE MSRDapeng Mi
Arch-PEBS introduces a new MSR IA32_PEBS_BASE to store the arch-PEBS buffer physical address. This patch allocates arch-PEBS buffer and then initialize IA32_PEBS_BASE MSR with the buffer physical address. 2024-07-04perf/x86/intel: Support the PEBS event maskKan Liang
The current perf assumes that the counters that support PEBS are contiguous. But it's not guaranteed with the new leaf 0x23 introduced. The counters are enumerated with a counter mask. There may be holes in the counter mask for future platforms or in a virtualization environment. Store the PEBS event mask rather than the maximum number of PEBS counters in the x86 PMU structures. 2022-02-02perf/x86/intel: Enable PEBS format 5Kan Liang
The new PEBS Record Format 5 is similar to the PEBS Record Format 4. The only difference is the layout of the Counter Reset fields of the PEBS Config Buffer in the DS area. For the PEBS format 4, the Counter Reset fields allocation is for 8 general-purpose counters followed by 4 fixed-function counters. For the PEBS format 5, the Counter Reset fields allocation is for 32 general-purpose counters followed by 16 fixed-function counters. Extend the MAX_PEBS_EVENTS to 32. Add MAX_PEBS_EVENTS_FMT4 for the previous platform. Except for the DS auto-reload code, other places already assume 32 counters. Only check the PEBS_FMT in the DS auto-reload code. Extend the MAX_FIXED_PEBS_EVENTS to 16, which only impacts the size of struct debug_store and some local temporary variables. The size of struct debug_store increases 288B, which is small and should be acceptable. 2019-04-16perf/x86/intel: Add Icelake supportKan Liang
Add Icelake core PMU perf code, including constraint tables and the main enable code. Icelake expanded the generic counters to always 8 even with HT on, but a range of events cannot be scheduled on the extra 4 counters. Add new constraint ranges to describe this to the scheduler. The number of constraints that need to be checked is larger now than with earlier CPUs. At some point we may need a new data structure to look them up more efficiently than with linear search. So far it still seems to be acceptable however. Icelake added a new fixed counter SLOTS. Full support for it is added later in the patch series. The cache events table is identical to Skylake. Compare to PEBS instruction event on generic counter, fixed counter 0 has less skid. Force instruction:ppp always in fixed counter 0. 2018-07-25perf/x86/intel/ds: Handle PEBS overflow for fixed countersKan Liang
The pebs_drain() need to support fixed counters. The DS Save Area now include "counter reset value" fields for each fixed counters. Extend the related variables (e.g. mask, counters, error) to support fixed counters. There is no extended PEBS in PEBS v2 and earlier PEBS format. Only need to change the code for PEBS v3 and later PEBS format. Extend the pebs_event_reset[] logic to support new "counter reset value" fields. Increase the reserve space for fixed counters. 2017-12-23x86/cpu_entry_area: Add debugstore entries to cpu_entry_areaThomas Gleixner
The Intel PEBS/BTS debug store is a design trainwreck as it expects virtual addresses which must be visible in any execution context. So it is required to make these mappings visible to user space when kernel page table isolation is active. Provide enough room for the buffer mappings in the cpu_entry_area so the buffers are available in the user space visible page tables. At the point where the kernel side entry area is populated there is no buffer available yet, but the kernel PMD must be populated. To achieve this set the entries for these buffers to non present.
