2024-07-27usb: gadget: midi2: Fix incorrect default MIDI2 protocol setupTakashi Iwai

The MIDI2 gadget driver handled the default MIDI protocol version incorrectly due to the confusion of the protocol version passed via configfs (either 1 or 2) and UMP protocol bits (0x100 / 0x200). As a consequence, the default protocol always resulted in MIDI1. This patch addresses the misunderstanding of the protocol handling. Left unchecked this will firstly result in an OOB read in the form `if (str[0 - 1] == '\n') followed closely by an OOB write in the form `str[0 - 1] = '\0'`. There is already a validating check to catch strings that are too long. Let's supply an additional check for invalid strings that are too short. commit c50814a288dcee687285abc0cf935e9fe8928e59 upstream. This reverts commit f49449fbc21e7e9550a5203902d69c8ae7dfd918. This commit breaks u_ether on some setups (at least Merrifield). The fix "usb: gadget: u_ether: Re-attach netif device to mirror detachment" party restores u-ether. However the netif usb: remains up even usb is switched from device to host mode. This creates problems for user space as the interface remains in the routing table while not realy present and network managers (connman) not detecting a network change. Various attempts to find the root cause were unsuccesful up to now. Therefore revert until a solution is found. commit e587a7633dfee8987a999cf253f7c52a8e09276c upstream. printer_read() and printer_write() guard against the race against disable() by checking the dev->interface flag, which in turn is guarded by a spinlock. These functions, however, drop the lock on multiple occasions. This means that the test has to be redone after reacquiring the lock and before doing IO. Add the tests. 2024-04-23usb: gadget: uvc: use correct buffer size when parsing configfs listsIvan Avdeev
This commit fixes uvc gadget support on 32-bit platforms. Commit 0df28607c5cb ("usb: gadget: uvc: Generalise helper functions for reuse") introduced a helper function __uvcg_iter_item_entries() to aid with parsing lists of items on configfs attributes stores. This function is a generalization of another very similar function, which used a stack-allocated temporary buffer of fixed size for each item in the list and used the sizeof() operator to check for potential buffer overruns. The new function was changed to allocate the now variably sized temp buffer on heap, but wasn't properly updated to also check for max buffer size using the computed size instead of sizeof() operator. As a result, the maximum item size was 7 (plus null terminator) on 64-bit platforms, and 3 on 32-bit ones. While 7 is accidentally just barely enough, 3 is definitely too small for some of UVC configfs attributes. For example, dwFrameInteval, specified in 100ns units, usually has 6-digit item values, e.g. 166666 for 60fps. The OS descriptors logic had the high/low byte of w_value inverted, causing the extended properties to not be accessible for interface != 0. >From the Microsoft documentation: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/usbcon/microsoft-os-1-0-descriptors-specification OS_Desc_CompatID.doc (w_index = 0x4): - wValue: High Byte = InterfaceNumber. InterfaceNumber is set to the number of the interface or function that is associated with the descriptor, typically 0x00. Because a device can have only one extended compat ID descriptor, it should ignore InterfaceNumber, regardless of the value, and simply return the descriptor. Low Byte = 0. PageNumber is used to retrieve descriptors that are larger than 64 KB. The header section is 16 bytes, so PageNumber is set to 0 for this request. We currently do not support >64KB compat ID descriptors, so verify that the low byte is 0. OS_Desc_Ext_Prop.doc (w_index = 0x5): - wValue: High byte = InterfaceNumber. The high byte of wValue is set to the number of the interface or function that is associated with the descriptor. Low byte = PageNumber. The low byte of wValue is used to retrieve descriptors that are larger than 64 KB. The header section is 10 bytes, so PageNumber is set to 0 for this request. We also don't support >64KB extended properties, so verify that the low byte is 0 and use the high byte for the interface number. 2024-04-23usb: gadget: f_fs: Fix race between aio_cancel() and AIO request completeWesley Cheng
FFS based applications can utilize the aio_cancel() callback to dequeue pending USB requests submitted to the UDC. There is a scenario where the FFS application issues an AIO cancel call, while the UDC is handling a soft disconnect. For a DWC3 based implementation, the callstack looks like the following: DWC3 Gadget FFS Application dwc3_gadget_soft_disconnect() ... --> dwc3_stop_active_transfers() --> dwc3_gadget_giveback(-ESHUTDOWN) --> ffs_epfile_async_io_complete() ffs_aio_cancel() --> usb_ep_free_request() --> usb_ep_dequeue() There is currently no locking implemented between the AIO completion handler and AIO cancel, so the issue occurs if the completion routine is running in parallel to an AIO cancel call coming from the FFS application. As the completion call frees the USB request (io_data->req) the FFS application is also referencing it for the usb_ep_dequeue() call. This can lead to accessing a stale/hanging pointer. commit b566d38857fc ("usb: gadget: f_fs: use io_data->status consistently") relocated the usb_ep_free_request() into ffs_epfile_async_io_complete(). However, in order to properly implement locking to mitigate this issue, the spinlock can't be added to ffs_epfile_async_io_complete(), as usb_ep_dequeue() (if successfully dequeuing a USB request) will call the function driver's completion handler in the same context. Hence, leading into a deadlock. Fix this issue by moving the usb_ep_free_request() back to ffs_user_copy_worker(), and ensuring that it explicitly sets io_data->req to NULL after freeing it within the ffs->eps_lock. This resolves the race condition above, as the ffs_aio_cancel() routine will not continue attempting to dequeue a request that has already been freed, or the ffs_user_copy_work() not freeing the USB request until the AIO cancel is done referencing it. fsl_ep_queue() is only called by usb_ep_queue() (as ep->ops->queue()). So _ep isn't NULL. As ep->ops->queue = fsl_ep_queue, the ep was initialized by struct_ep_setup() and so ep->udc isn't NULL either. Drop the check for _ep being NULL and assign udc earlier to prevent following an uninitialized pointer in the two dev_vdbg()s in lines 878 and 882. This fixes a compiler warning when using clang and CONFIG_USB_GADGET_VERBOSE=y. When ncm function is working and then stop usb0 interface for link down, eth_stop() is called. At this piont, accidentally if usb transport error should happen in usb_ep_enable(), 'in_ep' and/or 'out_ep' may not be enabled. After that, ncm_disable() is called to disable for ncm unbind but gether_disconnect() is never called since 'in_ep' is not enabled. As the result, ncm object is released in ncm unbind but 'dev->port_usb' associated to 'ncm->port' is not NULL. And when ncm bind again to recover netdev, ncm object is reallocated but usb0 interface is already associated to previous released ncm object. Therefore, once usb0 interface is up and eth_start_xmit() is called, released ncm object is dereferrenced and it might cause use-after-free memory. 2024-03-07usb: gadget: tegra-xudc: Fix USB3 PHY retrieval logicWayne Chang
This commit resolves an issue in the tegra-xudc USB gadget driver that incorrectly fetched USB3 PHY instances. The problem stemmed from the assumption of a one-to-one correspondence between USB2 and USB3 PHY names and their association with physical USB ports in the device tree. Previously, the driver associated USB3 PHY names directly with the USB3 instance number, leading to mismatches when mapping the physical USB ports. For instance, if using USB3-1 PHY, the driver expect the corresponding PHY name as 'usb3-1'. However, the physical USB ports in the device tree were designated as USB2-0 and USB3-0 as we only have one device controller, causing a misalignment. This commit rectifies the issue by adjusting the PHY naming logic. Now, the driver correctly correlates the USB2 and USB3 PHY instances, allowing the USB2-0 and USB3-1 PHYs to form a physical USB port pair while accurately reflecting their configuration in the device tree by naming them USB2-0 and USB3-0, respectively. The change ensures that the PHY and PHY names align appropriately, resolving the mismatch between physical USB ports and their associated names in the device tree. 2024-03-05usb: gadget: ncm: Fix handling of zero block length packetsKrishna Kurapati
While connecting to a Linux host with CDC_NCM_NTB_DEF_SIZE_TX set to 65536, it has been observed that we receive short packets, which come at interval of 5-10 seconds sometimes and have block length zero but still contain 1-2 valid datagrams present. According to the NCM spec: "If wBlockLength = 0x0000, the block is terminated by a short packet. In this case, the USB transfer must still be shorter than dwNtbInMaxSize or dwNtbOutMaxSize. If exactly dwNtbInMaxSize or dwNtbOutMaxSize bytes are sent, and the size is a multiple of wMaxPacketSize for the given pipe, then no ZLP shall be sent. wBlockLength= 0x0000 must be used with extreme care, because of the possibility that the host and device may get out of sync, and because of test issues. wBlockLength = 0x0000 allows the sender to reduce latency by starting to send a very large NTB, and then shortening it when the sender discovers that there’s not sufficient data to justify sending a large NTB" However, there is a potential issue with the current implementation, as it checks for the occurrence of multiple NTBs in a single giveback by verifying if the leftover bytes to be processed is zero or not. If the block length reads zero, we would process the same NTB infintely because the leftover bytes is never zero and it leads to a crash. Fix this by bailing out if block length reads zero. It is observed sometimes when tethering is used over NCM with Windows 11 as host, at some instances, the gadget_giveback has one byte appended at the end of a proper NTB. When the NTB is parsed, unwrap call looks for any leftover bytes in SKB provided by u_ether and if there are any pending bytes, it treats them as a separate NTB and parses it. But in case the second NTB (as per unwrap call) is faulty/corrupt, all the datagrams that were parsed properly in the first NTB and saved in rx_list are dropped. To deal with such devices, it pads an extra 0 at end so the transfer is no longer multiple of wMaxPacketSize. 2024-02-17usb: gadget: functionfs: Add DMABUF import interfacePaul Cercueil
This patch introduces three new ioctls. They all should be called on a data endpoint (ie. not ep0). They are: - FUNCTIONFS_DMABUF_ATTACH, which takes the file descriptor of a DMABUF object to attach to the endpoint. - FUNCTIONFS_DMABUF_DETACH, which takes the file descriptor of the DMABUF to detach from the endpoint. Note that closing the endpoint's file descriptor will automatically detach all attached DMABUFs. - FUNCTIONFS_DMABUF_TRANSFER, which requests a data transfer from / to the given DMABUF. Its argument is a structure that packs the DMABUF's file descriptor, the size in bytes to transfer (which should generally be set to the size of the DMABUF), and a 'flags' field which is unused for now. Before this ioctl can be used, the related DMABUF must be attached with FUNCTIONFS_DMABUF_ATTACH. These three ioctls enable the FunctionFS code to transfer data between the USB stack and a DMABUF object, which can be provided by a driver from a completely different subsystem, in a zero-copy fashion. Recent commit [1] added support for changing max segment size of the NCM interface via configfs. But the value of segment size value stored in ncm_opts need to be converted to little endian before saving it in ecm_desc. Also while initialising the value of segment size in opts during instance allocation, the value ETH_FRAME_LEN needs to be assigned directly without any conversion as ETH_FRAME_LEN and the variable max_segment_size are native endian. The current implementaion modifies it into little endian thus breaking things for big endian targets. Fix endianness while assigning these variables.
