None of these files are actually using any __init type directives and hence don't need to include . Most are just a left over from __devinit and __cpuinit removal, or simply due to code getting copied from one driver to the next. EXPORT_SYMBOL's do nowadays belong to the files where the actual functions are. Moving the module_init/module_exit to the file with the actual functions has the advantage of saving a few bytes due to the removal of two functions. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
