In the past the ast driver relied upon the fbdev emulation helpers to call ->load_lut at boot-up. But since commit b8e2b0199cc377617dc238f5106352c06dcd3fa2 Author: Peter Rosin Date: Tue Jul 4 12:36:57 2017 +0200 drm/fb-helper: factor out pseudo-palette that's cleaned up and drivers are expected to boot into a consistent lut state. drm/ast: switch to drm__get(), drm__put() helpers

Use drm_*_get() and drm_*_put() helpers instead of drm_*_reference() and drm_*_unreference() helpers. drm_*_reference() and drm_*_unreference() functions are just compatibility alias for drm_*_get() and drm_*_put() and should not be used by new code. So convert all users of compatibility functions to use the new APIs. The redundant fb helpers .load_lut, .gamma_set and .gamma_get are no longer used. Remove the dead code and hook up the crtc .gamma_set to use the crtc gamma_store directly instead of duplicating that info locally. Atomic helpers really want this instead of the hacked-up legacy backoff trick, which unfortunately prevents drivers from using their own private drm_modeset_locks. Aside: There's a few atomic drivers (nv50, vc4, soon vmwgfx) which don't yet use the new atomic color mgmt/gamma table stuff. Would be nice if they could switch over and just hook up drm_atomic_helper_legacy_gamma_set() instead.
